Teoman Kaya Doruk, professor emeritus – June 1, 2013

Teoman Doruk passed away unexpectedly at his summer home in Istanbul, Turkey on June 1, 2013.  Doruk was a Professor Emeritus of Architecture at Clemson and retired in 2000 after 21 years of service.

Doruk is survived by his wife, Birsen Doruk, an eminent architect and educator; his daughter and son-in-law; three grandchildren; family and friends.

Dourk first came to Clemson as a Fulbright Scholar in 1968 and balanced his time between teaching at Istanbul Technical University, his alma mater, and at Clemson for the remainder of his forty-plus-year career in architectural education.  He was a colorful and beloved teacher as well as an accomplished scholar of the creative process.  In addition to his teaching and scholarship, Doruk served as dean of Architecture and provost of Istanbul Technical University.  He was greatly admired by his many former students and colleagues around the world.

Together with extended family and friends, the family will conduct services in their native homeland.  A memorial service will be organized on campus.
