Stuart Silvers, Professor Emeritus of Philosophy and inaugural Chair of the Department of Philosophy and Religion at Clemson, passed on April 11, 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Silvers began his Clemson career on June 30, 1989, and retired on January 31, 2011. He joined the Emeritus College in 2015 and was later named an I. Dwaine Eubanks Emeritus College Fellow. He totaled 22 years of service with the University.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Silvers attended college at Michigan State, graduating with an interdisciplinary Social Science Divisional degree in 1958, followed by an master’s in Philosophy in 1960 and a PH.D. from the University of Pittsburgh in 1963.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Clemson University mourns the death of Jayson Sanstrum, University Facilities maintenance manager for housing residential facilities – custodial.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“With all he faced, Jayson worked with his colleagues and the Employee Engagement Committee to make University Facilities an even better place for our team members, demonstrating that even though he might not be around to continue the work, he wanted the best things possible for those he enjoyed working with each day,” said Todd Barnette, chief facilities officer. “He knew that even when we can\u2019t understand these hard challenges, the best way forward is to continue loving and caring for each other. His contagious smile and kind words of encouragement will be missed.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sanstrum began his Clemson career on March 23, 1999, as a temporary employee and was rehired as an FTE employee in 2019. He totaled more than 27 years of service with Clemson University.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Counseling services are available to faculty and staff through ComPsych, the University\u2019s Employee Assistance Program<\/a> provider, at 866-365-0813.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
