Illana Jamison is a current student in the dual MBA/Master of International Business (MIB) program, preparing to embark on an exciting journey to France this August to complete the IÉSEG program. As a full-time student abroad, Illana looks forward to immersing herself in international business and gaining invaluable global experience. “I really feel like this experience will help me grow as a person and become a well-rounded and experienced candidate for opportunities to come,” she shares. This past December, she had the opportunity to visit IÉSEG with her mother, meet professors and staff, and get a preview of the incredible experience that awaits her.

Reflecting on her time in the Clemson MBA program, Illana highlights some of her favorite courses, including Project Management with Russell Purvis and Operations Management with Richard Morris. Balancing coursework with full-time work has provided her with real-world applications for her education. “Being able to work while taking classes has given me perspective and confirmed that I chose the right degree,” she says. She also credits Jamie Patterson’s seminar class with opening her eyes to networking and professional development, helping her build meaningful connections and gain insight into business strategy.

Throughout the program, Illana has made bold career moves. After working at Johnson&Johnson for two years, she took a leap of faith. She applied for a Regional Business Steering and Digitalization internship at BMW—a decision she attributes to Jamie Patterson’s advice. “I learned from Jamie that if you don’t take the chance, it’s an automatic no,” she recalls. Now working at BMW, she is already seeing how her degree is shaping her future, allowing her to work with international colleagues and understand the inner workings of corporate business globally.

Beyond academics and career, Illana stays deeply involved in various organizations. She remains active in her sorority, Delta Sigma Theta, participates in employee resource groups, and takes pride in being the oldest sister of a blended family—an important role that has shaped her leadership skills and dedication to others.

Illana’s ultimate goal is to become as well-versed and well-rounded as possible, maximizing every opportunity the program offers. “I want to get everything that I can out of this program and eventually land a job with an international career,” she says.

For those considering an MBA, Illana offers this advice: “If you’re thinking about getting your MBA, just do it. It’s challenging, but it’s also incredibly rewarding.”

As Illana continues her journey, she remains focused on personal and professional growth, embracing every challenge and opportunity that comes her way. With her determination, global mindset, and the support of the Clemson MBA/MIB program, she is well on her way to achieving her goal of an international career. Her story inspires students looking to step out of their comfort zones and take full advantage of the experiences available to them.
