MSE Welcomes Two New Faculty Members

March 9, 2021

Enrique Martinez Saez

Enrique Martinez Saez joined Clemson University as an associate professor with joint appointments in Materials Science & Engineering and Mechanical Engineering.  Dr. Saez earned a Ph.D. in 2008 from the Polytechnic University of Madrid. Dr. Saez joined Clemson after previously serving as a research scientist at the Los Alamos National Laboratory.

Dr. Saez’s research interests lie on the study of the microstructural evolution of materials under extreme conditions of irradiation, temperature and deformation and its relation to the macroscopic system response. The design of advanced materials is crucial in the quest for cleaner, more efficient energy sources. Theoretical developments along with modeling and simulation strategies have become paramount in this quest to guide and interpret experimental approaches.

Kimberly Weirich

Kimberly Weirich joined Clemson University as an assistant professor in Materials Science & Engineering.  Dr. Weirich has a Ph.D. in Biomolecular Science and Engineering and undergraduate degrees in Physics and Linguistics from the University of California, Santa Barbara. Before joining Clemson University, she was a Postdoctoral Scholar at the University of Chicago in the James Franck Institute and the Pritzker School of Molecular Engineering.

Dr. Weirich is an interdisciplinary researcher in experimental soft matter and biological materials, with focuses in self-organization and unusual mechanics in soft materials inspired by biology.
