What is MSE?
The Materials Science and Engineering Program is regarded as an interdisciplinary research department with research spanning across every area of Materials Science and Engineering.
MSE is an interdisciplinary field
Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) is a highly interdisciplinary field that bridges the gap between various branches of engineering and the sciences. It integrates principles from physics, chemistry, biology, and mechanical, electrical, and chemical engineering to understand and manipulate the properties of materials. This cross-disciplinary nature allows MSE to tackle challenges in diverse areas, from developing stronger, lighter, and more sustainable materials for aerospace and automotive industries to creating advanced biomaterials for medical applications. MSE also plays a pivotal role in renewable energy, nanotechnology, and electronics, where the discovery and optimization of materials drive technological advancements. By working at the interface of multiple fields, materials scientists are able to innovate solutions to some of the world’s most pressing challenges.
