Sure is HOT outside – Preventing Heat Stress

Record breaking temperatures have been experienced by most of the US and South Carolina is no exception.  OES reminds everyone to follow safe practices outside in the heat for work or play

  • Keep hydrated.  Drink plenty of water even if you are not thirsty.
  • Take frequent breaks in the shade or cool environment.
  • Wear light colored, light weight clothing.
  • Monitor yourself and others for signs of heat illness.
  • Get emergency assistance immediately if someone is experiencing a heat illness emergency.

OES will be hosting the 5th Annual Department Safety Coordinator (DSC) Retreat on Thursday, August 10, 2023, from 8AM until noon at the Hendrix Center Ballroom.  This retreat is a great opportunity for DSC’s from many campuses to network with each other and hear presentations on OES safety programs, upcoming safety initiatives, and safety successes throughout the CU community.  OES will also present awards to both individuals and departments for their outstanding contributions in promoting a positive safety culture.  The event is sponsored by VWR, with several safety vendors providing information on their products.
