OES is pleased to introduce Blake Robinson, as a Healthy and Safety Specialist. 

Blake has a B.S. in Biology from Erskine College, and most recently was the manager at SEEML labs who oversaw daily lab functions of lab including compliance with OSHA and NIOSH requirements.  Blake also conducted analysis for mold and asbestos and brings knowledge on the subject of Indoor Air Quality with respect to microbial identification. He recently completed his OSHA 30 hour and Introduction to Industrial Hygiene courses and is looking to forward to starting his career as a health and safety professional. Blake also brings experience as a Content Media Editor creating engaging video content for social media platforms.

OES would like to recognize Health and Safety Specialist Laura He for attaining the professional title of Certified Safety Professional (CSP).  This accreditation is awarded by the Board of Certified Safety Professionals^® and signifies that Laura has demonstrated the highest level of expertise in the safety field through a process of rigorous study, examination, and professional experience.  OES is proud to recognize Laura for this achievement as we continue to strive for the highest degree of professional excellence towards serving and supporting Clemson University’s core mission of research, teaching and public service.

Due to the upcoming CU holiday schedule the following will be the last dates for hazardous/chemical and biohazardous waste request submittal and removal:  

The last day to submit a hazardous/chemical waste removal request will be Monday, December 4, 2023 and the last day for hazardous materials personnel to remove waste from labs/generation areas will be Thursday, December 7, 2023.

The last day to submit a biohazardous waste removal request will be Thursday, December 7, 2023 and the last day for hazardous materials personnel to remove biohazardous waste from labs/generation areas will be Monday, December 11, 2023.

Any waste removal requests that we receive after the deadline above will be picked up in the order they were received after we resume our normal waste removal schedule on January 4, 2024.

The Hazardous Materials Team wishes each of you a very happy and safe holiday season.

Tony Winchester, OES Safety Specialist, spent a lot of time on Bowman Field during the building of floats for homecoming week.  The students spent long hours working this week but it was all worth it.  Such a rewarding experience being able to interact with the students, all while educating them on safety measures.

Beginning on September 15, 2023, the name of BioRAFT will be changed to SciShield.

• Only the name will be changed, and you will see the new logo on sign in
• Sign in the same with CU username and password
• All functions and modules are the same
• Users will not see changes or need to update access

OES is pleased to announce:

Tanner Finney has accepted the position as Senior Health and Safety Specialist.  Tanner has been working at OES for almost five years and has made substantial contributions to the IH Programs.  Tanner’s dedication to customer service and his knowledge of IH practices and implementation of BioRAFT/SciShield have contributed to the success of OES programs.  

Andrea Connor had accepted a position as Health and Safety Specialist.  Andrea comes from the Chemistry Department where she is completing her PhD.  Andrea has been the Lab Safety Manager in Dr. Arya’s lab and has worked hard to make significant safety improvements.   

Both Tanner and Andrea will take on their new roles on September 1, 2023.

Anne Kogut, Industrial Hygiene Manager representing Occupational and Environmental Safety (OES) at New Faculty Orientation.  OES is an excellent source of information and support regarding safety and well being of faculty, staff and students. 

We are proud to have one of the best in the industry representing OES and Clemson University.  IHMM Certificants are professionals in the top 1% of their communities of practice in hazardous materials management, dangerous goods transportation, environmental protection, health and safety.  June is currently serving her second term as Treasurer on the Board of Directors. 

June has been with Clemson University for over 29 years and OES is grateful to have her keeping us all safe.
