Sure is HOT outside – Preventing Heat Stress

Record breaking temperatures have been experienced by most of the US and South Carolina is no exception.  OES reminds everyone to follow safe practices outside in the heat for work or play

  • Keep hydrated.  Drink plenty of water even if you are not thirsty.
  • Take frequent breaks in the shade or cool environment.
  • Wear light colored, light weight clothing.
  • Monitor yourself and others for signs of heat illness.
  • Get emergency assistance immediately if someone is experiencing a heat illness emergency.

OES will be hosting the 5th Annual Department Safety Coordinator (DSC) Retreat on Thursday, August 10, 2023, from 8AM until noon at the Hendrix Center Ballroom.  This retreat is a great opportunity for DSC’s from many campuses to network with each other and hear presentations on OES safety programs, upcoming safety initiatives, and safety successes throughout the CU community.  OES will also present awards to both individuals and departments for their outstanding contributions in promoting a positive safety culture.  The event is sponsored by VWR, with several safety vendors providing information on their products.

OES announces the new pilot program – “Hazardous Materials Transportation Services”

The transportation of Hazardous Materials is sometimes required between Clemson University facilities within the state for research purposes as well as job functions.  Clemson University does not endorse the use of personal vehicles or public transportation for these functions and has formed a pilot program, “Clemson HazMat Transportation Services” to determine the degree of need for a transport service.  Upon request by a Clemson Faculty, Staff or Student, OES personnel will assist with the packaging and delivery of hazardous materials to all Clemson University facilities using a Clemson University vehicle.

Please visit the OES webpage for more information and to find the link to the HazMat Transportation Services Pickup Request Form.

If you have any questions, please contact the Hazmat Transport Service Manager.
