What is One Health?

One Health is an approach for solving problems based on the idea that the health and well-being of humans, animals and the environment are interconnected and mutually important.

Why is it important to apply One Health research approaches?

  • Disease Control: Vital for preventing and managing shared health threats.
  • Holistic Collaboration: Promotes more comprehensive solutions to problems through interdisciplinary teamwork.
  • Grant funding: Funding agencies are increasingly calling for more collaborations among animal, human, and environmental health experts to help address important challenges.

  • Promote and facilitate the use of One Health approaches in research areas such as the following:
    • antimicrobial resistance mitigation
    • comparative medicine/translational research
    • zoonotic diseases
    • disaster preparedness and response
    • food safety
    • food insecurity
    • human-animal bond
    • education and training of the next generation of One Health professionals
    • welfare/well-being of animals
