Clemson Online Resources for Online Exams

September 11, 2020

Never administered an exam online? Have concerns about academic integrity in online exams? Don’t know where to start? Clemson Online has resources to help!

Use Canvas

Canvas has the functionality to create and administer online exams. Canvas Quizzes give instructors the ability to create several types of exams including many question varieties. Watch this video for a quick overview of creating and using the Quizzes feature in Canvas: Creating Quizzes in Canvas

Encourage Academic Integrity

While online exams can feel like an easy route for dishonesty, there are several best practices and tools to help encourage academic integrity. Review our Best Practices for Online Exams. Watch this video for an overview of Canvas Quizzes and Academic Integrity Tips including remote proctoring options: Online Exams in Canvas

Additionally, you may want to consider one of our supported remote proctoring solutions. For more information and a comparison of our supported systems, please visit our Compare Clemson Proctoring Solutions webpage. If you choose to use a proctoring solution, we highly recommend creating a practice quiz or encouraging students to visit https://clemson.instructure.com/enroll/JN7DMX and complete the steps for the appropriate practice quiz.

Common Exams

If you and/or your colleagues are giving common exams online, please send an email at least a week in advance to ITHELP@clemson.edu with the exam date(s), time(s), and anticipated number of students taking the exam. Additionally, please include if you are using any proctoring tools such Respondus Lockdown Browser, Monitor, or Remote Proctor Now.
