New semester, new equipment, new featured student work

August 21, 2019

This week is the start of classes at Clemson University, which means a flurry of students in the Harris A. Smith Building! Faculty and staff at the Sonoco Institute spent the summer organizing labs and ushering in new equipment for the fall semester. Among these new tools are the Mimaki USA 3DUJ-553 full-color commercial 3D printer and the Fujifilm Acuity Select 20 digital flatbed UV inkjet printer (stay tuned for more news).

A new semester also means new student projects adorning the halls and lobby of the Sonoco Institute. Check out the undergraduate product and packaging creations below that were 3D-printed over the summer after last semester’s PKSC 2200 course! Second-year packaging students in PKSC 2200 are tasked with designing functional perfume or cologne bottles and branded packaging. Throughout the semester, they build the structure of, and graphics for, each individual concept. See below for some of the featured projects from Spring 2019 and the names of their student designers. Click here to learn more about student involvement and courses hosted at the Sonoco Institute.
