Fall 2025 STEM Fellowships and Awards

Five new opportunities for STEM Fellowships and Awards. Application deadlines vary, see more details below or visit the Clemson Office of Major Fellowships website.

SMART Scholarship for Service:

The SMART Scholarship-for-Service Program offers full tuition, a generous stipend, and guaranteed employment with the Department of Defense after graduation, empowering STEM students to turn their studies into meaningful national service. Undergraduate and graduate students are eligible – the application deadline is December 5th. Contact Celia Crifasi (ccrifas@clemson.edu) in the Office of Major Fellowships to learn more.

Hollings:

The NOAA Ernest F. Hollings Undergraduate Scholarship Program provides academic support and a paid summer internship at a NOAA facility. Open to students in STEM, environmental science, policy, and related fields, the program offers hands-on experience in oceanic and atmospheric research, resource management, and science communication. Hollings Scholars gain professional mentorship, networking opportunities, and a direct pathway to impactful careers in environmental stewardship and public service. The application deadline is January 31st – contact Celia Crifasi (ccrifas@clemson.edu) in the Office of Major Fellowships to learn more.

NSF GRFP:

The NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP) supports outstanding graduate students pursuing research-based master’s and doctoral degrees in STEM or STEM education fields. Applicants must be U.S. citizens, nationals, or permanent residents who are early in their graduate studies (1st year) or applying to begin a research-focused graduate program at an accredited U.S. institution (graduating seniors or alumni unenrolled). The NSF GRFP reference letters are due November 7, 2025 (by 5:00 p.m. ET).
Application deadlines vary by field of study:

  • November 10, 2025 for Life Sciences
  • November 12, 2025 for CISE, Materials, Psychology, SBE, STEM Education
  • November 13, 2025 for Engineering
  • November 14, 2025 for Chemistry, Geosciences, Mathematical Sciences, Physics & Astronomy

Amgen Scholars:

The Amgen Scholars Program offers fully funded summer research opportunities at leading universities across the U.S. and abroad for undergraduate students in science and biotechnology fields. Participants gain hands-on lab experience, faculty mentorship, and professional development while exploring pathways to graduate study and research careers. The application typically opens November 1st and deadlines are usually the first week of February but vary by institution. DAAD RISE:

DAAD RISE: The application is open for this German summer research internship opportunity. Students apply for a project with a host institution according to their area of interest (biology, chemistry, physics, earth sciences, engineering, computer science, or a related field). No German proficiency required!
