Research Process and Advanced Career Planning Seminar Series

Are you interested in research, but your summer plans changed?  Are you conducting research, but need additional help in building research skills?  We have an online seminar series for you!  The live seminars run from 12-1 PM and recordings are available to you at any time.  Students are added to a Canvas site that includes links to the live seminars (Zoom) and also recordings of all seminars held this summer.

  3. Skills and Best Practices for Conducting Research
  4. STEM Degrees and Graduate School

Students who would like to earn a ‘Research Foundations Endorsement’ that can be listed on their resume, will be asked to attend all seminars and complete associated assignments.  Most students completing this program report that the program takes 5-6 hrs per week.  Assignments range from completing online safety training to writing reflection essays about the material presented.  We will accept up to 30 Clemson students from engineering, science, or computer programs to complete the ‘Research Foundations Endorsement’.  

By the close of the program, you will be able to:

  • Explain what research is and members of the research community
  • Explain the scientific method
  • Identify pathways to seek undergraduate research experiences
  • Create professional correspondence seeking research positions
  • Communicate their experience and background in a professional manner
  • Complete initial online safety and responsible conduct of research training
  • Describe the required techniques for record-keeping and documentation during research projects
  • Describe how research is disseminated through journal articles and conference presentations
  • Describe pathways to pursue a research career and the application for advanced degrees in STEM fields
  • Describe the importance of inclusion and diversity within the research community

What happens after I apply for either the endorsement or to audit the workshop series?:  You will receive an email from Dr. Kennedy (mskenne@clemson.edu) to let you know your status.  Those accepted will be added to the Canvas site and work will be distributed through this portal. 

Is there a fee?  No, there is no fee to participate in this workshop series.  This program was created to help students during the COVID-19 pandemic progress in their research careers.
