Name: Matthew Owens
Hometown: Blythewood, South Carolina
Major: Communication Minors: Non Profit Leadership and Travel & Tourism
Favorite place for lunch on campus or in town: Loose Change, obviously. Best burger in Clemson.
Favorite spot on campus: Trustee Park! I love how green it is and I always see a bunch of people going to or from class. It’s beautiful, the names on the concrete are cool, and you get to see Fort Hill, another one of my favorite spots on campus.
Favorite question on a tour: “What’s your favorite Clemson tradition?” The Clemson ring! I used to wear my dad’s around the house and even tried to wear it to school one day. I’m pumped to get mine.
Clubs and Organizations you are involved in on campus: Tri-County Young Life, Clemson Undergraduate Student Government, and Fellowship of Christian Athletes
Hobbies: Hiking, going to the Dikes to watch the sunset, spending too much money on food, and saying I’m going to All In to study but actually talking for hours.
Advice for jumping into college life: Get involved in as much as possible! That’s the best way to make friends and to meet people who have similar interests as you. Make friends on your hall, apply for everything, and go to anything you get invited to. Have fun on the front end, don’t wait until you’re older to get plugged in!
Advice on how to choose a college: Go where you feel the most at home. Don’t listen to your friends or family telling you to go somewhere, go the place that’s the best for you.
Fun fact about yourself: My great uncle brought Howard’s Rock from the other Death Valley in California and gave it to Frank Howard as a gift!
