CECAS Faculty & Staff Resources for Undergraduate Studies

Academic Integrity

Academic integrity is an important topic in higher education at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.  This page provides resources for faculty and staff related to academic integrity at Clemson University and will be updated periodically.

Clemson University Academic Integrity Statement
The following is the official academic integrity statement for Clemson University and should be included in all course syllabi.

“As members of the Clemson University community, we have inherited Thomas Green Clemson’s vision of this institution as a “high seminary of learning.” Fundamental to this vision is a mutual commitment to truthfulness, honor and responsibility, without which we cannot earn the trust and respect of others. Furthermore, we recognize that academic dishonesty detracts from the value of a Clemson degree. Therefore, we shall not tolerate lying, cheating or stealing in any form.”

Academic Integrity Policies and Resources

Undergraduate Students
The academic integrity policy for undergraduate students is outlined in the Undergraduate Catalog under Academic Regulations.  The Academic Integrity Website also includes specific instructions and details about the process, information about plagiarism, an FAQ, and contact information.  It is important to remember that an instructor cannot penalize a student for violating the academic integrity policy without due process.  For questions about the policy and/or process related to undergraduate students, contact Dr. Jeff Appling, Senior Associate Dean in the Division of Undergraduate Studies (japplin@clemson.edu; 864-656-3022).

Graduate Students
The academic integrity policy for graduate students is different than that for undergraduate students and is covered in detail in the Graduate School Policies and Procedures (section 2.9 starting on page 41).  For questions about the policy and/or process related to graduate students, contact Dr. Brian Dominy, Associate Dean in the Graduate School (dominy@clemson.edu).
