Greetings fellow Tigers!
The Clemson Corps will host a community-wide service honoring America’s fallen soldiers from all wars on Sunday at Clemson University’s Scroll of Honor Memorial — the monument that recognizes Clemson alumni who died on active military service. Retired Army Chaplain (Col.) Dave West will speak at the 4 p.m. ceremony. The memorial service will feature the placing of a wreath, the playing of “Taps” and the dedication of two new stones on the Scroll of Honor Memorial. The stones represent Lawrence N. Meadors, Class of 1954, and John B. Mitchell, Class of 1949, who lost their lives while serving on active duty in the United States Air Force. The dedication of stones engraved with the names of these men will bring the number of heroes memorialized on the Scroll of Honor to 493. You can read more about the ceremony and the Scroll of Honor here.
Wow! What a game! The Clemson baseball team (43-13, 22-8 ACC) entered the ACC Tournament yesterday as the No.2 seed and faced No. 11 seed Notre Dame and set an ACC record. The Tigers – who shared the ACC regular-season championship with North Carolina and won the Atlantic Division title – defeated the Fighting Irish 21-4, with 17 runs scored in the fourth inning. The Tigers face No. 7 seed Miami (Fla.) tonight at 7 p.m. to determine the winner of the pool. Go Tigers!
The first College of Engineering, Computing and Applied Sciences Dean’s Leadership Circle Summit was held on campus recently and was hailed as a tremendous success. A group of Leadership Circle donors gathered for fellowship and enlightened conversation with Dean Anand Gramopadhye. At the Leadership Circle Summit, donors built stronger business connections with each other and gained insight into the dean’s vision for the college and key partnerships with companies such as Samsung. The Dean’s Leadership Circle is comprised of a prestigious group of donors who support the dean’s vision for the college through unrestricted gifts to the Dean’s Excellence Fund. This year, the fund provided support for international travel for the Clemson Engineers for Developing Countries, a Lunch and Learn series for PEER & WISE, two Dean’s Faculty Fellows and student completion grants. Students in Clemson University School of Nursing Bachelor of Science program benefit from scholarships funded by the Lettie Pate Whitehead Foundation. The funding totals $94,000 for the 2018-2019 academic school year. This year, the scholarships for the School of Nursing expanded to include Accelerated Second Degree nursing students. The Foundation’s scholarship program awards annual grants for the education of deserving female students with financial need at more than 200 accredited educational institutions. Most of the scholarship grants support undergraduate higher education, though the Foundation maintains a special interest in health education. A significant number of their grants target education in the medical, nursing and allied health fields. Since 1994, the Lettie Pate Whitehead Foundation has supported Clemson’s School of Nursing with gifts totaling $964,000. A select group of faculty and staff “graduated” this month from Clemson’s signature leadership development program – the President’s Leadership Institute (PLI). The goal for PLI is that graduates leave the program with a greater appreciation of what it takes to keep Clemson a leader in higher education and that they gain knowledge and skills that will allow them to grow in their careers – at Clemson or elsewhere. President Clements shared this message, “I’m inspired by the talent and commitment our PLI members have shown over the last two years, and know that Clemson’s future is in good hands, thanks to the great work these and all our employees continue to do every day.” Watch this video to learn more about the President’s Leadership Institute.
B- in the moment.
As we join together with loved ones this weekend, we remember and thank those who have made the ultimate sacrifice to our country.
If you haven’t visited Clemson University’s Scroll of Honor, I encourage each of you to take the time to visit the monument during your next visit to the Clemson campus and take a moment to remember those who have given their lives for our country.
Happy Memorial Day and Go Tigers!
