Two Bioengineering Students Recognized by National Science Foundation

Ryan Borem, a United States Army combat veteran and current PhD student in Dr. Jeremy Mercuri‘s lab, was awarded an NSF Graduate Research Fellowship. The fellowship will support continuation of Ryan’s research on development of a tissue-engineered scaffold to assist in repair and regeneration of intervertebral discs in patients suffering from back pain. Graduate student Alan Marrioneaux, also of Dr. Mercuri’s lab, was awarded Honorable Mention. Alan’s research focus is cartilage repair and regeneration.
