Yu Tan Accepts Award in Chinese Embassy in Washington, DC

Yu Tan Ying Mei

In 2003, the Chinese Government Award for Outstanding Self-Financed Students Abroad was established to honor the academic excellence of Chinese PhD students studying abroad without financial aid from the government. After two rounds of judging by invited experts from each field in the host country and in China, awardees are selected mainly on their research achievements and academic merit. Only those with outstanding performance in their PhD studies are considered, and no more than 500 awards will be granted annually in 29 developed countries.

Yu Tan, a PhD student in Dr. Ying Mei’s lab, received the award on April 21, 2016. This year, among  the 16 states (DC, DE, ID, KY, MD, MT, NC, ND, NE, SC, SD, TN, UT, VA, WY, WV) affiliated with the Chinese Embassy in Washington, DC, awards were granted to 31 students from 17 disciplines (physics, chemical engineering, computer science, management, etc.) in 14 universities). Yu Tan was the only recipient selected in the field of bioengineering this year.
