Zhang Named Associate Chair

Guigen ZhangGuigen Zhang, Professor of Bioengineering, Executive Director of the Institute for Biological Interfaces of Engineering  and Director of the Call Me Doctor  Fellowship Program for underrepresented minorities, has been named Associate Chair for Program Development and Outreach in Bioengineering.

“Guigen has demonstrated superior leadership skills as Executive Director of IBIOE, Director of the CMD program, Chair of the TPR Committee and as a member of the BIOE Faculty Advisory Committee. His commitment to education, outreach and diversity is exemplary,” said Martine LaBerge, Chair of the department. “We look forward to his leadership as we reach for new highs for the department.”

Dr. Zhang is a Fellow of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering. He has published extensively in the areas of biosensors, biomechanics and biomaterials. His research has been funded by diverse sources, including federal agencies such as National Institutes for Health and National Science Foundation, private foundations like the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and venture groups and state-level startup funds. Dr. Zhang holds numerous patents in nanotechnology-enhanced structures and biosensors.
