Matin Tabarhoseini is a Ph.D. student in mechanical engineering whose research has potential application in the early diagnosis of such critical healthcare issues as diabetes and cancer. He earned an undergraduate degree as well as a master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Babol Noshirvani University of Technology in his home country of Iran. During his high school and college years, Matin was involved in multiple academic activities and events, including a mentorship program where he focused on introducing others to the field of mechanical engineering. Matin moved to Clemson this August to begin his doctoral work where he met fellow Iranian students and became involved in the activities of this community. He recently participated in Clemson University Iranian Student Association events highlighting the current political situation in his home country. One such recent event is the Solidarity with #MAHSAAMINI Movement in Iran which features original artwork produced by students.
Matin found Clemson University during an internet search for possible Ph.D. schools, choosing it because it is ranked among the top fifty engineering universities. He not only is taking classes and conducting research for his degree but he is also teaching courses online to students in Iran. As an instructor, he believes that “every student should feel that they’re important, and no one has superiority over anyone else.” Matin is especially interested in promoting equity for women in mechanical engineering. By promoting this equity, Matin wants to help increase this marginalized population in the domain of mechanical engineering.
Matin has a passion for teaching and his long-term goal is to be a professor at one of the prestigious universities in Iran. He finds joy in sharing his knowledge with enthusiastic and talented students. Matin also welcomes the opportunities he has found at Clemson to have his voice heard. When he returns to his home country, he wants to help create an environment where everyone has the freedom of expression he has experienced here. He also looks forward to sharing his experiences with the warm-hearted people he has met at Clemson.
