These past few months have offered excellent opportunities for the Office of Inclusive Excellence and Graduate Studies to attend several national conventions across the country. The end of October took us to Houston for the Society of Women Engineers Conference; in November, we attended the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers Meeting in Charlotte, and finally, our team traveled to Anaheim, California, to the Annual Biomedical Research Conference for Minoritized Scientists. Our team shared our research opportunities, our outstanding faculty and staff, and the chance to work with excellent graduate students here at Clemson University with the students we met. Many were interested in learning more about how to apply to graduate school and what universities look for in applicants, allowing us to share information about our STEM ALL IN program and how to apply.
We are grateful for our fantastic team of staff and students who attended these events on behalf of our office: Barbara Smith, the graduate student services coordinator for the Department of Environmental Engineering and Earth Sciences and the Department of Engineering and Science Education; Andrea Vera Martinez, a Ph.D. student in the Department of Bioengineering and a graduate assistant in the Office of the Associate Dean of Inclusive Excellence and Graduate Studies; Andrew Edmunds, the coordinator for the Office of Inclusive Excellence and Graduate Studies; and Brandon Sanders, a Ph.D. student in the Department of Biological Sciences and a Bridge to Doctorate Fellow. We appreciate their hard work and commitment to sharing our college strengths and what can be done to change the world as a graduate student at Clemson.
