Staff Spotlight: Brittany Sanders

The PEER & WISE Program, which focuses on improving student retention and recruiting efforts in the College of Engineering, Computing, and Applied Sciences, offers tutoring, mentoring and guided coursework materials to help our students succeed. As part of this program, Brittany Sanders serves as the project manager for the Next Engineers Greenville, an initiative that concentrates on improving the number and diversity of young people pursuing career paths in engineering. Sanders has a passion for fostering diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) in the Clemson University environment. She sees DEI as “ushering in a new generation of not just policies and procedures, but thinking,” and with her commitment to advancing DEI in STEM, she is setting an example for young people coming into these fields.

Sanders earned her Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering with a minor in Mathematical Sciences right here at Clemson University. In addition to her position as a project manager, she is also a graduate student working toward her Master’s Degree in Industrial Engineering, with an expected completion date of Spring 2023. Sanders’ choice to attend Clemson University was easy. The rolling hills and crisp autumn air of the Upstate captivated her, along with finding a home in PEER & WISE. After completing her Bachelor’s Degree, she applied for the position in PEER & WISE because, as she says, she “could not pass on the opportunity to inspire the next generation of engineers.” In her current role, Sanders has the opportunity to help thousands of youth across the Upstate discover their inner engineer. Next Engineers Greenville, sponsored by General Electric, comprises three programs, Engineering Discovery, Engineering Camp and Engineering Academy, that allow young people to explore the breadth of engineering and how they can make the world a better place as engineers. Sanders’ immediate goal is to increase the number of women and other underrepresented groups pursuing degree programs here in Clemson University’s College of Engineering, Computing and Applied Sciences in the 2024-2025 academic year.
