Three Students Receive GE John Lammas Scholarships

November 20, 2025

The GE Vernova John Lammas Annual Scholarship program at Clemson University empowers the next generation of STEM innovators while honoring an engineering titan.

Powering the Future: Celebrating Clemson’s GE Vernova John Lammas Scholars

The story of this life-changing program began in March 2021. GE Gas Power (now GE Vernova) announced a historic $1 million investment over three years in addition to the annual scholarship gift to Clemson’s College of Engineering, Computing and Applied Sciences (CECAS).

The scholarship honors John Lammas, a legendary GE engineer and visionary leader. Over his 35-year career, Lammas revolutionized jet travel and modern power generation. In late 2023, GE Vernova deepened its commitment with an additional $710,000 pledge. This renewed funding expanded the program to offer $8,000 annual scholarships. It covers diverse majors, ranging from mechanical and electrical engineering to computer information systems. Beyond direct tuition relief, the scholarship opens doors to career-launching co-ops, mentorship, and internships. Among the brilliant cohort of CECAS recipients are three standout students from SCEEES who embody the drive, vision, and leadership that the Lammas legacy represents:

  • John Bates: A dedicated civil engineering student focusing his skills on the foundational infrastructure of tomorrow.
  • Kara Kraczon: A standout civil engineering student actively involved in professional development and student mentorship networks.
  • Allison Field: An environmental engineering and earth sciences student whose award has opened crucial professional doors by letting her network directly with GE Vernova leaders. Learn more about Allison’s story here.

On November 20, 2025, the Clemson community gathered to honor these brilliant minds during the John Lammas Scholarship Night at the Watt Family Innovation Center.

Surrounded by the interactive video displays and creative energy of the Watt Center, the evening celebrated both student achievement and industrial partnership. Outstanding student scholars connected directly with GE Vernova executives and Clemson leadership. Speakers emphasized how the bridge between university academia and local industry builds a pipeline that benefits the entire regional economy.

By investing in these Tiger engineers, GE Vernova ensures that John Lammas’s brilliant legacy continues to power homes, industries, and dreams for generations to come. Go Tigers!
