Clemson Steel Bridge Team Wins “Most Improved Team” Award at ASCE Nationals!

We’re thrilled to announce that the Clemson ASCE Steel Bridge Team has been named the 2025 recipient of the AISC John M. Yadlosky Most Improved Team Award!

Clemson has a long tradition of excellence in the Student Steel Bridge Competition, once standing among the top teams in the nation. In recent years, we faced our share of setbacks—but 2025 marked the beginning of a powerful comeback. Despite disruptions to our fabrication lab, a team of mostly new members, and the additional challenge of hosting the ASCE Carolinas Student Symposium, our students showed incredible resilience and dedication—earning their spot at nationals and taking home national recognition.

The award, presented by the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) and the AISC Education Foundation, honors the team that demonstrates the greatest year-over-year improvement in performance, organization, and future potential. According to AISC’s selection committee, Clemson impressed them with a thoughtful overhaul of our entire design and build process, especially improvements in team planning, scheduling, and execution.

The award honors John M. Yadlosky, a celebrated bridge designer and mentor whose legacy now helps support developing SSBC teams across the country. Along with the honor, the Clemson team received a $2,000 grant to help fund next year’s competition efforts, and a team representative attended the 2025 SSBC National Finals to learn from the best in the nation.

Congratulations to our students for their grit, growth, and Tiger spirit—we’re proud of how far you’ve come and can’t wait to see what 2026 holds!
