Several of the best and brightest students in the Holcombe Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering were recognized at the department’s fall advisory board meeting. The Rhodes Most Outstanding Student Awards are presented each year to the most outstanding sophomore and junior students in both electrical and computer engineering. The recipients are chosen based on their outstanding academic achievement, character, and leadership, and receive a $500 cash award.

Rhodes Outstanding Sophomore in Electrical Engineering
Jacob A. Thompson
Kingsport, TN
Jacob is a member of the Calhoun Honors College and is minoring in Business Administration. He is on the President’s List, is a National Merit Scholar, a research assistant with the EUREKA summer camp, and is active on campus in the intramural Ultimate Frisbee league and by serving as a student photographer for Clemson Athletics.
Rhodes Outstanding Junior in Electrical Engineering
William P. Krier
Seneca, SC
William is a member of the Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society and is minoring in Physics. He is on the President’s list and is the recipient of multiple scholarships, including Palmetto Fellows, Universal Forest Products Education Foundation; Charles C. Kanapaux scholarship, etc. He currently works as a lab assistant on a Sounding Rocket Instrumentation project and is involved in space physics research under the direction of Dr. Xian Lu. He is a member of Clemson’s Cross Country and Track and Field team.

Joshua W. Harvey
Greer, SC
Joshua is a member of the Calhoun Honors College, minoring in Mathematics, and is on the President’s and Dean’s Lists. He is an active member in Engineers without Borders, and participates in the Clemson University Sailing Club.
Rhodes Outstanding Junior in Computer Engineering
Benjamin Harrison Shumpert
Aiken, SC
Benjamin is a member of the Calhoun Honors College, minoring in Mathematics, and is on the President’s List. He is an active member of Engineers without Borders, Grand Challenges Scholars, Tau Beta Pi, and serves as the Treasurer for the Clemson student chapter of IEEE. He was also the recipient of Rhodes Most Outstanding Sophomore in Computer Engineering last year.
