The Department of Environmental Engineering and Earth Sciences proudly celebrates Muzan Ijeoma, a Ph.D. candidate in the E3 Systems Analysis Group, who has been awarded the 2025 American Center for Life Cycle Assessment (ACLCA) Leadership Award (Student).
The ACLCA Leadership Award recognizes individuals and organizations who have made significant contributions to the advancement and application of life cycle assessment and life cycle thinking. Muzan was honored for his innovative research on the environmental performance, circular design, and end-of-life strategies of mass timber systems, as well as his broader work applying life cycle thinking to emerging technologies and waste management solutions.
At the ACLCA 2025 conference in Atlanta, GA, Muzan gave two technical presentations—one on attributional and prospective LCA of agricultural waste disposal, and another on the LCA of a commercial-scale biobased base oil (polyol ester). His research stood out for combining rigorous methodological analysis with practical insights for sustainable systems design.
Beyond his technical achievements, Muzan has been actively engaged in the LCA community, promoting collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and the integration of LCA into engineering and policy. His leadership reflects Clemson’s growing reputation in sustainability science and underscores the department’s commitment to training the next generation of leaders in life cycle assessment and systems analysis.
Congratulations to Muzan on this prestigious recognition! His achievement not only highlights individual excellence but also demonstrates the impact of Clemson research on shaping a more sustainable future.
