Biosystems Engineering Junior Wins Hollings Scholarship

Riley takes a dive in the Florida Keys during a marine ecology course trip during Summer 2019.

Riley Garvey, a junior in Biosystems Engineering, was awarded the 2019 Ernest F. Hollings Undergraduate Scholarship, sponsored by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).  This prestigious scholarship program is designed to increase undergraduate training in oceanic and atmospheric science, research, technology, and education and foster multidisciplinary training opportunities, as well as increase public understanding and support for stewardship of the ocean and atmosphere and improve environmental literacy. Riley will receive financial assistance for up to two years of undergraduate study, and will participate in an internship at NOAA studying how hydrothermal vents on the Southern East Pacific Rise affect ocean chemistry.
