Biosystems Engineering Students Win Regional Award

The Biosystems Engineering Club was voted “ASABE Southeastern Chapter of the Year” at the organization’s regional student rally held in Raleigh, NC, March 22-24, 2024.  ASABE stands for the American Society for Agricultural and Biological Engineers.  The organization’s vision is to achieve “. . . a world where all have the food, water, energy, fiber, and safe environment needed to thrive.”  Each year the organization sponsors regional meetings (“rallies”) where students can network with peers from other universities and engage in professional development activities.

Clemson’s participation was organized by the Biosystems Engineering Club. According to the Club’s President, Teague McCracken, “This honor is a testament to our amazing members’ uplifting of each other’s professional careers, our dedication to service/environmental stewardship, and our community’s impression on others in a professional setting. We were awarded this honor by the other ASABE chapters in the Southeastern region, which spans Texas A&M, Virginia Tech, Florida A&M, and everyone in between!”

This year, the club has had a record engagement. About 40% of the undergraduate student body enrolled in Biosystems Engineering attended at least one event every month this year! The club was also recognized with a university-wide award when they were awarded “Organization of the Year” by Clemson’s chapter of the leadership honors society Omicron Delta Kappa. This award recognizes The Biosystems Engineering Club as a model organization for its service, leadership, and professional development.

Congratulations to the Biosystems Engineering Club for a fantastic year!  Dr. Tom Dodd is the Club’s advisor.
