In summer 2025, student enrolled in the Clemson Hydrogeology Field Camp, GEOL 4750, participated in a field camp led by Mr. Will Junkin and Dr. Emily Scribner. One of the sites they visited was on top of Whiteside Mountain to learn about Paleozoic intrusive rocks and metasedimentary rocks. Participants were students from both within Clemson University and other national universities.
Whiteside mountain is a landmark along the Eastern Continental Divide which rises to an elevation of 4,930 feet. The mountain’s cliffs look like sheets of ice draped across the mountain.
It is located south of U.S. 64 between Highlands and Cashiers in North Carolina.
