Gleasman Wins Grant from the Geological Society of America

Gavin Gleasman in North Inlet – Winyah Bay of Georgetown, SC, collecting sediment core samples

Gavin Gleasman, a doctoral student working with Dr. Kelly Lazar, was awarded a research grant from the Southeastern section of the Geological Society of America (GSA).  According to Blair R. Tormey, Secretary/ Treasurer – Southeast Section, GSA, the selection committee received “. . . numerous meritorious proposals and limited funds made for a very competitive program.” In addition to the Southeastern GSA graduate student grant, Gavin has also received graduate student grants in 2022 from the Phi Kappa Phi honor society and in 2021 from the national GSA grant program. The secured funding supports Gavin’s research which investigates the impacts of high-energy storm events on carbon storage in North Inlet – Winyah Bay, South Carolina.
