Dr. Nicole Martinez was chosen by the Health Physics Society (HPS) to receive the 2019 Elda E. Anderson Award. This award is presented to a young member of the Health Physics Society to recognize excellence in (1) research or development, (2) discovery or invention, (3) devotion to health physics, and/or (4) significant contributions to the profession of health physics. The award will be presented at the HPS annual meeting in Orlando, FL this July.
Dr. Martinez is an Assistant Professor in EEES. Her current research interests focus on the behavior and effects of radiological contaminants in the environment, to include radiation transport modelling, improved dosimetric methods, low dose response in microorganisms, and the influence of plants on radionuclide mobility. In addition, Dr. Martinez is interested in non-technical issues within radiation protection, such as ethics and diversity. She serves on Committee 4, Application of the Commission’s Recommendations, of the International Commission of Radiological Protection and is the current president of the Women in Radiation Protection section within the Health Physics Society.
