Dawn Montgomery, PhD student in Environmental Engineering and Science, was awarded a first place prize in the Innovations in Nuclear Technology R&D Awards sponsored by the US Department of Energy for her publication in the Journal of Environmental Radioactivity entitled, “The Influence of Citrate and Oxalate on 99TcVII, Cs, NpV and UVI Sorption to a Savannah River Site Soil.” The competition awards students for innovative research in nuclear-technology-relevant topics such as energy policy, advanced fuels, and nuclear science and engineering. Dawn was awarded first place in the Used Fuel Disposition category of the Open Competition.
Dawn is advised by Dr. Nicole Martinez and co-advised by Dr. Brian Powell. She is one of 23 graduate and undergraduate students from across the country to receive an award in the 2017 competition for their research.
