Helene Recovery Project

Turtles

This project will evaluate the distribution and conservation status of bog turtles and other rare semi-aquatic turtle species. It will identify threats to these species and their habitats, as well as guide habitat restoration and head-start programs that will assist with species recovery. This will be accomplished through field surveys, camera traps, radio telemetry to track movement, and satellite data to assess habitat. Findings will support management of mountain bogs and riparian habitats critical for the persistence of turtles.
