Developing faculty and staff: President’s Leadership Institute application period is now open

Dear Clemson Family,

I am pleased to announce the application period for the 2017-18 President’s Leadership Institute (PLI) class, a leadership development program for faculty and staff, is now open.

This robust program will give selected faculty and staff the opportunity to participate in a number of activities designed to broaden participants’ experience and perspective, strengthen their leadership skills, build a network among participants, and inspire and prepare participants to pursue additional leadership roles at the university. Participants will gain exposure to all aspects of the university’s operations and will have the chance to interact with many members of Clemson’s senior leadership team throughout the course of the program.

A joint faculty and staff cohort, consisting of 25 individuals, will be selected from nominations provided by members of the Executive Leadership Team or college Deans. Nominations will be accepted through Friday, April 21, and selections will be announced in early May.

The program is a 10-month commitment (August 2017 through May 2018), with activities planned once a month with a day and a half retreat at the beginning of the program. This time commitment must not only be made by the participants, but also supported by their department chairs, deans, and/or supervisors, who will need to offer some flexibility to allow their employees to participate in the program. I believe the long-term benefits of developing the leadership skills and engagement of our faculty and staff will make that commitment worthwhile.

If you would like to be considered for the next PLI class, please notify your college dean, senior administrator, or Executive Leadership Team member from your respective area.

I am excited to be able to offer this program to our faculty and staff, who work so hard to make Clemson such a great university.

Go Tigers!

Jim Clements
