Inside Clemson

Clemson faculty asked to give input about their experiences

In April, faculty members will receive an invitation to voice their overall experience as Clemson University faculty members. Clemson and the Higher Education Research Institute (HERI) at UCLA will conduct a survey of all faculty. Administered every three years, the survey identifies important information about faculty satisfaction, workload, goals, stressors, and experiences. The survey collects information about the experiences of faculty from hundreds of institutions across the nation, and the findings are reported in publications by HERI and the Chronicle of Higher Education. According to HERI, since 1989, more than 500,000 faculty members have participated in this research.

At Clemson, faculty are essential to our mission of establishing a “high seminary of learning” through our land-grant responsibilities of teaching, research, and public service. By capturing information about our faculty’s pedagogical activities, goals and expectations of students, research and service activities, and satisfaction, Clemson will be able to identify actionable information for strategic planning, recruitment and retention, faculty development activities, and pedagogical practices. Likewise, institution-wide results to the HERI faculty survey will be an important way of charting our progress within Clemson Forward while providing a way to identify areas in need of improvement.
