Rebecca Smith Rodgers, 58, of Central, died May 4. Rodgers was a research specialist in Animal & Veterinary Sciences, and retired in 2016 with 30 years of service. She was a 1982 graduate of Clemson and earned her bechelor’s degree in dairy science.

Rodgers is survived by her husband, daughter, son, family and friends.

A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. May 10 at Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home, 108 Cross Creek Road, Central. The family will receive friends at 5:30 p.m. until prior to the service.

 Clemson University is launching a significant safety program to promote vital protective measures for our visitors, particularly the population of minors with whom the University’s faculty, staff and students engage extensively and continually through various programs, events and activities. The Pre-collegiate Programs Office (PcPO) will assume broader responsibility for overseeing all aspects of the protection of minors on behalf of Clemson University.

The following revised policies are effective immediately:

• • Reporting Child Abuse or Neglect
  • Protection of Minors in Youth Programs and Activities Policy

Faculty and staff are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the revised policies. During the fall 2019, a 10-minute Tiger Training session will be available to faculty and staff to enable them to become better informed of how to identify and report abuse or suspicion of abuse of a minor.

In addition, organizers and directors of programs with the participation of minors will have additional safety compliance requirements to follow and will be required to register their program/event/activity in Ideal-Logic, the new registration system facilitating the PcPO’s efforts to monitor compliance.

Clemson Home has faculty and staff covered with $5 breakfasts, lunches and dinners, Monday through Friday. The opportunity is good from May 13 through Aug. 9 and valid for those dining onsite at The Fresh Food Company on Clemson’s main campus.

Kathy Hobgood, assistant vice president for University Housing and Dining, said that the dining halls not only present good food, they can also create a sense of community.

“We believe that our dining halls can be a great gathering space for faculty, staff and students,” she explained. “There’s something so elemental to community about breaking bread together. We’re excited to be able to help facilitate that even more during the summer by offering $5 meals to faculty and staff.”

Faculty and staff should present their Tiger One card to the cashier to achieve the $5 special.

William (Billy) Loren Gallien, 22, died May 1. He was a senior environmental and natural resources major from Clover.

“The Clemson Family is saddened at this tragic loss,” said Associate Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students L. Christopher Miller. “We ask that you keep the Gallien family in your thoughts and prayers.”

Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) is providing grief counseling. Students who want to speak to a counselor should contact CAPS at 864-656-2451.

Gallien is survived by his parents, brother, family and friends.

The family will receive friends at First United Methodist Church, Clover, SC from 1 – 3:30 p.m. Sunday, May 5, 2019.  A Celebration of life will be held at 4 pm at First UMC Clover, 124 Bethel Street Clover with the Rev. Tony Adams and the Rev. Tommy Wilkes officiating.  Burial will follow at Woodside Cemetery, Clover, SC.

Donald Sanford Adams, 79, of Clemson passed away Apr. 27, 2019. He retired after 33 years of service as Pesticide Regulatory Coordinator for the state of South Carolina.

Adams is survived by his wife, children, family and friends.

Funeral services will be held May 4, 2019 at the Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home.

Candice “Candy” Raye Herron, 66, of Pendleton passed away Apr. 27, 2019. She served as a library specialist at Clemson Libraries for 15 years.

Herron is survived by her brother, family and friends.

James “Jim” A. Chisman, Ph.D., retiree, 84, of Clemson, passed away Mar. 25, 2019. He retired after 29 years of service as a professor of Industrial Engineering in the Department of Industrial Engineering.

Chisman is survived by his wife, step-children, family and friends.
