Allen to hold open office hours to garner input on Clemson’s history

Chief of Staff and Interim Chief Diversity Officer Max Allen invites faculty, staff and students to join him for open office hours to share any thoughts they may have on Clemson’s history.

Allen offers three opportunities to provide input at meetings held in his office, 201 Sikes Hall:

    • 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday, Nov 18
    • 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov 18
    • 2 -to 4 p.m. Friday, Nov 20

Those who prefer to participate electronically can read more about the Board of Trustees’ Task Force on the History of Clemson and submit feedback online here.

“Many individuals and groups on and around campus have valuable thoughts on this topic,” he said. “We want to make sure their voices are heard.”

Some questions Allen suggested could help guide input include:

–              What, if anything, could Clemson do better to ensure its history is told accurately and completely?
–              Is there a particular aspect of history you believe should receive the most focus? Why?
–              What are some realistic, creative ways to best communicate our story?
–              How can we strike a balance between telling our full, unvarnished history while we look to the future and enhance our commitment to diversity and inclusion?

Clemson’s board of trustees launched a task force charged with engaging a diverse group of stakeholders to solicit ideas on how to best tell Clemson University’s complete history.

President Jim Clements and the task force will perform a thorough review of all input received and ultimately present a set recommendations to the board by early February 2016.
