Calhoun Fields stream restoration works begins May 20

Work is scheduled to begin May 20 in the Calhoun Fields to enhance a three-acre wetland area and restore 300 linear feet of Hunnicutt Creek.

The stream restoration work will take approximately eight weeks. As part of the plan, workers will remove the berm and create a naturally shaped floodplain, stabilize stream banks to minimize erosion, plant native grasses and shrubs and establish a minimum 75-foot buffer zone.

The work is expected to improve the natural stream function, reduce water sediment and limit flooding during wet periods.
