Campus construction update: Klugh Avenue to close Thursday; parking relocated

By Jackie Todd, office of Media Relations

Evidence of the Core Campus project will become apparent as construction engineers install the project site fence today.

The fence will close off the grassy area between Klugh Avenue and Union Drive. As a result, Klugh Avenue and the east/west portion of Union Drive will close Thursday for the duration of the Core Campus project. Those who park on Klugh Avenue will be able to park at designated green spaces along Williamson Road. For students, a temporary commuter lot has been created west of Fike Recreation Center.

The project also includes relocation of utilities resulting in the closure of Fort Hill Street and Alpha Beta Circle, both thoroughfares in the heart of the university’s main campus. However, these streets will remain open for now as project coordinators wait for final work permits. Updates will be shared in a future Inside Clemson.

Approved earlier this year by the university’s Board of Trustees and state agencies, the $96 million Core Campus project will feature a 260,000-square-foot mixed-use facility that will include student housing, dining facilities and meeting space for faculty and students.
