CCIT: Don’t succumb to phishing attack

Members of the Clemson University community are receiving messages asking them to give up their passwords by logging into what looks like a Clemson website. Please, do not be a victim of scams like these. Clemson computing staff will never send communications asking you to provide your username and password.

Spammers use compromised accounts to send more spam. Compromised accounts cause Clemson to be assigned a “poor” reputation, which leads to all email from Clemson being rejected by many Internet sites. You may be experiencing problems sending email to some recipients. CCIT is working to resolve these issues.

CCIT is using multiple solutions to respond to, control and to protect against phishing attacks. CCIT team members continue to refine processes to detect and fix compromised accounts. Because security is a shared responsibility, employees’ actions affect every one at Clemson.

  • Safeguard your credentials.
  • Be extremely cautious about the links in your email messages.
  • If possible, browse to the website yourself, then enter your user ID and password instead of clicking on email links if you think the message is legitimate.
