Child car seat inspections offered to university faculty, staff and students

University families interested in ensuring their child’s car seat is correctly installed can have the seat inspected on campus 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 24 as part of Clemson’s Safety Awareness Month activities.

This inspection is a collaborative project of the Clemson University Police Department and the Institute for Global Road Safety and Security’s Child Passenger Safety Program. A NHTSA-certified child passenger safety technician will conduct the inspections. The inspection takes about 30 minutes and appointments are needed. To schedule an appointment and receive directions to the inspection site, please call 656-6876.

Child safety seats are encouraged because:

  • Traffic crashes are the leading cause of unintentional death and injury for children from birth through age 13.
  • When properly installed and used, child safety seats reduce the risk of death by 71 percent for infants and 54 percent for toddlers.
  • Inspection data indicates that 3 out of 4 children riding in child safety seats are improperly restrained.
