The Clemson Caribbean Initiative steering committee has called an emergency meeting of all faculty, staff and students to develop responses to the devastation caused by hurricanes Harvey, Irma and now Maria. The meeting will be from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 26, in ballroom B of Hendrix Student Center.
The Clemson Caribbean Initiative aims to promote, support, coordinate and expand linkages in teaching, research and scholarship, and service between Clemson University and the Caribbean region. There is a seed grant program under way and a strategic plan has been drafted. The initiative is co-chaired by Sharon Nagy, vice president for Global Engagement, and Gary Machlis, professor of environmental sustainability.
The devastation in the Caribbean region requires a rapid and thoughtful response from American universities engaged in the region.
Faculty, staff and students with an interest in the Caribbean region and responding to the disaster are encouraged to participate – even if you cannot attend the entire meeting, your input is important. We are working to provide connectivity for those not on the main campus.
