Clemson gearing up for Give Day

By Jackie Todd, University Relations

Attract faculty, staff and students. Offer cutting-edge facilities. Create professorships. Support student scholarships and fellowships.

The Clemson community will join to help the university achieve those goals with their participation in the fourth annual Give Day, scheduled to begin 8 a.m. Wednesday, April 3. Last year, 3,500 donors contributed more than $1.4 million during the 24-hour marathon event. This year, organizers hope to top donations from 2018 and attract 3,600 donors.

“Give Day brings together all members of the Clemson Family – alumni, faculty, staff, students, parents and friends to support our university in a very impactful way,” said Ann Smith, senior director of annual giving. “In that short 24-hour period, we hope to raise 3,600 gifts in support of all areas of campus. It is truly an opportunity for Clemson to confirm its strong tradition of giving.”

Make your gift at www.clemson.edu/giveday, or contact the Annual Giving office at 864-656-5896, or givingtocu-L@lists.clemson.edu. All gift amounts will be gratefully accepted and all contributions are tax-deductible.

On the main campus, volunteers will give donors t-shirts, snacks and more from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the Trustee Lawn between Fort Hill Street and Calhoun Drive. Look for radio personalities Qualk & Kelly from “The Roar” sports talk show on WCCP (105.5 FM), who will broadcast live from noon to 3 p.m.

Everyone likes a challenge. Toward that end, several donors have pledged significant “challenge gifts” that can be unlocked throughout the day.  Those challenges and the real-time cumulative total of gifts received will be updated throughout the day at www.clemson.edu/giveday.

Event organizers are asking faculty, staff and students to wear their orange Give Day shirts and share their posts on social media using the #ClemsonGiveDay hashtag.
