Clemson is Global series kicks off this week

The new “Clemson Is Global Series” will kick off this week. The semester-long series includes discussions and intercultural communication trainings designed specifically for faculty and staff to engage with the diversity of perspectives, cultural backgrounds and heritage of international students and scholars at Clemson University. The event is funded by a Diversity Incentive Grant from the Chief Diversity Office and coordinated by the Office of Global Engagement. The scheduled events will take place in the David Peebles Room in the Hendrix Student Center.

  • Immigration in South Carolina
    3-5 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 5
    A discussion about the history and nature of international migration to South Carolina, presented by Dr. Diane Vecchio of Furman University.
  • Intercultural Communication Training
    3:30-5 p.m., Tuesday,  March 10
    An interactive training exercise designed to increase intercultural awareness and introduce specific communication strategies facilitated by national trainer, Helen Jameson.
  • Introducing India
    3:30-5 p.m., Tuesday,  March 31
    A focus on the second-most populated nation in the world and its diverse cultural landscape, presented by Dr. Uttiyo Raychaudhuri and an international student panel.
  • Considering China
    3:30-5 p.m., Tuesday,  April  21
    A focus on the social and cultural richness of China, the country from which the largest international student population on campus originates, presented by Dr. Yanhua Zhang and an international student panel.
