Inside Clemson

Clemson named mother-friendly employer

Clemson was named a Mother-Friendly Employer by the South Carolina Breastfeeding Coalition (SCBFC). Only two other universities in the state earned this honor.

The SCBFC uses various criteria in evaluating mother-friendly employes including:

Support of employee through a lactation policy, which is either already adopted or in the process of being adopted

Flexible break times given to employees for lactation purposes.

Education of employees about the lactation support program, policies and resources.

Place were lactating mothers can go to use their breast pumps.

Clemson has established the Lactation Network Implementation committee, which has helped to establish lactation rooms and additional spaces to provide breastfeeding mothers with a safe, clean and private environment to use a breast pump. The committee is in the final stages of drafting a lactation support policy and is also developing a website to provide information regarding resources for nursing mothers. Both will be released in the coming months.
