Clemson Student Memorial Chapel and Garden Week; candlelight vigil planned

This week, students are working to create awareness and educate the campus community about the Student Memorial Chapel and Garden, a student-driven initiative to build an all-faiths memorial chapel on campus. Organizers report that the proposed chapel would welcome faculty, staff and students of all faiths, who could come together to pray, reflect, meditate and remember the more than 650 fellow Clemson students who have passed away before their expected graduation date.

“With the recent passing of several of our students, the Clemson Family has been through a rough time,” said Cody Sargent, student chair of the Student Memorial Chapel and Garden committee. “This drives home the need for a place that everyone – regardless of their faith – can come together to practice their faith and remember their fellow Tigers.”

In support of this initiative, the Student Memorial Chapel and Garden committee will host a Candlelight Memorial Vigil at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 22 at the campus Reflection Pond in front of the Cooper Library.

“We would love to have the support of our faculty, staff and students at this event,” said Sargent.
