Free financial literacy training: Summer schedule

To help Clemson’s faculty and staff make sound financial decisions, the Office of Human Resources is partnering with the South Carolina Retirement System to provide a series of no-cost financial literacy seminars.

Whether you are beginning your professional career, nearing retirement or somewhere in between, each seminar in the series will further equip you with the tools and resources you need to make informed decisions regarding your financial well-being. Registration information follows the schedule.

Protecting Your Identity: What to Know and What to Do
May 13
Identity theft affects us all. Gain an understanding of measures you can take to protect your private information. This seminar offers advice on how to reduce the risk of identity theft and what to do if your identity is stolen.

Halfway There: A Retirement Checkup
June 3
This seminar offers a mid-career financial checkup by evaluating your current savings and helping you formulate a plan to reach your savings goals. Build an awareness of how to manage competing goals, including saving for college and a host of other financial commitments.

June 10
This seminar was so well received in the spring 2016 that we are offering it again. Gain key information about the main areas of financial planning: cash management, tax planning, risk management, retirement planning, estate planning, investment planning and long-term care.

Save More for Retirement: Supplemental Retirement Plans
July 22
This seminar compares the different supplemental retirement plans available to you, including 401K, 403b, and 457 plans. Gain an understanding of how these tax deferral plans compare to Roth IRAs and how each type of plan fits into an overall retirement strategy.

Charting Your Course: A Financial Guide for Women

It is predicted that 40 percent of women will be living on their own by age 65. This seminar is designed to help female members of the University community better prepare for life’s challenges. From a financial health evaluation to setting financial goals and honing the skills needed to get the most from your money, this seminar offers a foundation for creating an effective financial plan.
