Nominate for Distinguished Postdoc Award by June 15

The Clemson University Postdoctoral Association (CUPDA) seeks nominations for its Distinguished Postdoctoral Award. The award recognizes a postdoctoral fellow who displays outstanding performance in scientific research, leadership, advocacy, outreach and/or teaching, during their postdoctoral appointment at Clemson University. Nominees should exhibit a commitment to the betterment of the postdoctoral community at Clemson University.

The award winner will be announced in July and will be awarded $500 and a plaque during the National Postdoctoral Appreciation Week (NPAW) in September.

Eligibility
• The applicant must be a current postdoctoral associate at Clemson University. (Must be employed as a postdoc at the time the application is submitted).
• Award winners can only receive one award for the duration of their postdoctoral appointment at Clemson University.
• To be eligible for application, the applicant must be nominated by a faculty member through a confidential letter of recommendation sent to Tonyia Stewart. (The nomination can be submitted by any faculty member.)
• The applicant must have attended at least two CUPDA meetings and/or events between Feb. 1, 2019 and the end of the application period.

Criteria
• The award will be based on the performance at Clemson University as a postdoc.
• The applicant should demonstrate outstanding research and/or teaching performance.
• The applicant’s involvement in other leadership positions can also be considered, along with any awards or honors the applicant has received while a postdoctoral associate at Clemson University.
• Points that will be assessed:
(1) Disseminating work, both inside and out of Clemson through publications, patents, and active participation at national and local conferences.
(2) Student mentoring. This includes mentoring graduate students and/or undergraduate students.
(3) Teaching/leadership roles/outreach. This includes any teaching roles, leadership roles, service to the University such as judging posters, organizing conferences, and public outreach activities for the community.

Application documents
1. A completed Distinguished Postdoc Award application.
2. Applicant CV with completed Clemson University postdoc work highlighted.
3. Two confidential letters of recommendation (maximum of two pages) are required for the application. Submit these to Tonyia Stewart. Each letter should be a maximum of two pages). One of these letters must be from the applicant’s advisor and should highlight the work done as a postdoc at Clemson University.
4. A one-page cover letter addressing the applicant’s eligibility for the award as stipulated in the criteria section.

Application period
The application period is open through 5 p.m. on June 15, 2019.

How to apply
Tonyia Stewart will inform nominees via email. At that point, nominees can complete and submit the application documents to Stewart. All application materials, including confidential recommendation letters, should be emailed directly to Stewart by 5 p.m. June 15.
