Recycling updates its In-Office Recycling Guide

You may have noticed the blue recycling bins in and around all the offices and classrooms, but have you wondered how to use them properly? Implemented campus-wide in 2011 through the President’s Commission on Sustainability, the Mini Bin Program has seen significant success across the Clemson campus. The complete list of what can be thrown out where is online and has been recently updated.

Plastic bottles and aluminum cans have specially labeled bins in the hallways, and there are large garbage cans for food waste and food-contaminated waste disposal. The little blue recycling bins fit nearly under your desk and are emptied for you each week. These bins receive paper waste–anything from old Post-it notes to junk magazines. But food-contaminated paper, paper towels and tissues are not appropriate for the blue bin–these items would be considered “trash.” The little black mini-bin contained within the blue recycling receptacle is for your actual trash.

The In-Office Recycling Guide online brochure, which explains recycling process and items in detail, can be accessed at http://www.clemson.edu/facilities/recycling/recyclingoncampus.html.
