Redfern and Sullivan Center offering Measles immunizations

A recent multi-state measles outbreak, which began late last year in California has caused increased concerns about the potential for measles to spread among unvaccinated people.

Redfern Health Center is offering MMR immunizations to students on a walk-in basis on Wednesdays from 9 until 11:30 a.m. and from 1:30 p.m. until 4:15 p.m. Students can also call 656-1541 to make an appointment to receive the MMR vaccine. The cost of the MMR vaccine is $75 for fee-paid and $80 for non-fee-paid students.

Faculty and staff can obtain the vaccine at the Sullivan Center by calling for an appointment at 656-3076.

Measles is a highly contagious, acute viral illness which can cause severe health complications, including pneumonia, encephalitis, and death. It is transmitted by contact with an infected person through coughing and sneezing. Infected people are contagious from four days before their rash starts through four days after the rash disappears Clemson University requires that all students born after 1956 receive two doses of MMR after 12 months of age. CDC recommends that anyone without proof of immunity receive the measles vaccine.
